Sounders Council
Section 139

I began playing soccer when I was 8 years old. At the age of 10, when the NASL Sounders moved to the Kingdome, I became a Sounders Jr. Booster member -attending all the home games and many of the after-game autograph sessions. Every game was a blast. Being one of the 55,000 fans to see Pele and the Cosmos was an incredible experience. This early exposure jump started my passion for the game and the Sounders.

Now, I am married with two kids, continue to play soccer and still love the Sounders! I had been waiting for years for MLS to come to Seattle, so when Sounders FC offered the unique idea of forming a Council to represent the members association, I knew I had to be a part of it.

Some of the issues that I would like pursue while on the Council this year are:

  1. Beer, beer, and beer! – We need better, and local, beer available at Qwest. Why not offer Manny’s beer from Georgetown Brewery? It is only brewed about a mile away from X-Box Pitch. Let’s support a local brewer who makes a darn good beer. If the fans have to spend big bucks for beer… it should be for GOOD beer!

  2. Jr. Alliance – Similar to the NASL Jr. Booster Club that I joined as a child. Get the kids more involved and hooked in with the team. Membership card, autograph session for Jr. Alliance post game, special events, etc.

  3. MLS Longevity - Sounders fan base is going strong here. But how can we help foster and sustain the MLS around the league? Many of us older NASL fans can’t bear to see an MLS version of the NASL dissolution.

  4. Voting – We need to change voting to ‘one seat, one vote’ for all voting opportunities including the Council. Don’t penalize people for sitting together. Each seat deserves an independent vote, not just weighted voting per account.

  5. Misc. - Kids are requesting a mascot, but what would be fitting? The adults want better officiating…how can we influence this?

Please feel free to contact me if you feel strongly about these or other Alliance issues. It’s important that we hear from you. Let’s make sure all of our voices are heard. Here’s to a successful inaugural season for our Sounders FC and our Alliance! Go Sounders!
